Azure NetApp Files Now Supports Large Volumes Up to 500TiB

Azure NetApp Files now supports the creation of large volumes ranging from 50TiB to 500TiB, surpassing the previous 100TiB limit. This enhancement caters to workloads requiring larger volumes with a unified namespace, such as High-Performance Computing (HPC) in the EDA and O&G sectors.

In addition to increased volume size, large volumes are supported with cross-zone and cross-region replication. This ensures data resilience and business continuity, particularly benefiting HPC, AI/ML workloads, and large file content repositories. For HPC, this feature improves data protection and operational continuity. AI/ML workloads gain enhanced security and recovery options for large datasets, ensuring data integrity. Content repositories benefit from immediate access and safeguarded data against loss while optimizing cost and scale.

Currently, the large volumes feature is available in select regions, depending on capacity at the time of creation. Note that existing regular volumes cannot be converted to large volumes or expanded beyond 100TiB. Expansion to additional regions is planned for the future.
